Construction Manager/Owner Vernon Development

Steve Vernon

Steven A. Vernon has worked in many different construction capacities from laborer to supervisor of a framing crew building homes and office build outs. He is a licensed electrical and HVAC contractor and has designed electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems for residential, commercial, and industrial work. He has experience in the operation of trenching and excavation equipment of many types. He is familiar with a variety of surveying equipment and spent time supervising a site crew responsible for taking and identifying all site work elevations on a small dam project with the Army Corp of Engineers. He is familiar with and has laid both plastic and cast iron pipes for a variety of water and storm detention projects. Steve managed work for the Tinley Corporate Center involving the coordination of gas, electric, telephone, storm and sewer lines, water main and road construction for a 70 acre office and light industrial park.

As your construction manager, Steve would be responsible for all areas of construction supervision, project coordination, quality control, on site sequencing of activities, etc. We will discuss these responsibilities in detail in item 3-Service.

Steve is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY. He concentrated on engineering, specializing in the area of mechanical and structural engineering. He sat for and passed the Pennsylvania engineer in Training E.I.T. test. In addition he has worked toward a master's degree in Business administration at Northern Illinois University. Steve is a registered member of the Who's Who registry of Business Leaders, and was Tinley Park's Business Man of The Year.

Site Superintendents

Chad Brough

Chad Brough is one of Vernon Development's site superintendents. He is knowledgeable in all aspects of construction from ground breaking to the final touches. He has extensive expertise and years of experience in the areas of Steel Framing, structural and non-structural, HVAC systems, roofing and pre-cast construction. Chad is able to conform to any situation and possesses the knowledge and skills needed to manage a timely, successful project. Chad has been with our firm for almost nine years and quickly became one of our key managers. Chad has completed projects such as Christ Community Church, a 40,000 sq/ft facility in Lemont, which includes a gymnasium/auditorium, classrooms, kitchen and more. He also has finished up the 2ND Phase of the Tinley Park based United Cerebral Palsy facility. His future project will be overseeing the new Gardens of Westmont which is a 32 unit upscale condominium starting Spring 2009.

Dan Chopp

Dan Chopp is also one of our firm's site superintendents. Dan has quickly moved his way up in the company, starting his career with Vernon Development as a carpenter. He earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Eastern Illinois University and is also a certified Union carpenter. Dan has over 17 years of carpentry experience and specializes in millwork. Some of his past employers include Airtight Inc. and Hayes Mechanical. Dan's most recent project as a superintendent includes the build out of Phase I and II of the Vernon Office and Tech Center. A growing business park with 5 buildings at 23,050 sq/ft and 1 building at 38,000. Phase I is completed with 3 buildings and Phase II construction has already begun.

Project Coordinator

Kim Jones

Kim Jones is our firm's project coordinator and has been a valuable part of the company for eight years now. Her education includes a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in operations from Devry University. Her duties consist of contractor follow-up; i.e. assuring that off-site work such as the fabrication of structural steel or precast panels is on schedule. She also provides document control and management of all subcontractor insurance and bonding requirements. She conducts regular communication with the Title Company to insure that all necessary waivers and legal documents are processed. She reviews and inspects construction sites periodically for OSHA compliance and reviews all company insurance documents such as general liability, builder's risk, and worker's compensation. Kim coordinates the time line of subcontractors on the job and works with the site superintendents to ensure the orderly progress of the project and works closely with the client's representative for interior build outs coordinating such things as floor coverings, wall colors, cabinetry, fixtures, etc. Kim is assisted by Kimberly Martini. Kimberly has been with our company for over a year now and has quickly learned many of the aspects involved in new construction and planning, including build-outs, product ordering, and project coordination.

Amy Kocjan

Amy Kocjan handles the property management for the tenants of Vernon Financial Properties and Vernon Office and Tech Center. She has been with our company for 2 years now and handles leases, tenant billing, and bids for common areas. VFP has a total of 5 buildings and 10 tenants and VOTC, currently in its final stage of development, will have 5 Buildings and currently has 5 tenants. She is also assisting in the marketing aspect of creating leasing mailers and website development.

Construction Crew

In addition to the officers mentioned above, our firm has a group of highly trained and skilled professionals working in the fields of carpentry, painting, electrical, and HVAC. All employees have safety training as well as hands on experience in most areas of construction. The crew dedicates their time and hard work to ensure all projects are complete and successful.
